Memes for Women Artists:
Kelly Sullivan
I chose artist Kelly Sullivan for this project. We were tasked with researching a female artist and her work. We wrote a research paper on her, edited her Wikipedia information for the Wiki Needs Women Campaign, and created three memes centered around her work. Kelly Sullivan's FingerSmears are collaborative art pieces known around the world. She encourages everyone she meets to add their finger-paint mark to her paintings. These are her quotes with my artwork. She truly is a self-proclaimed "Art Crusader". I found her very inspiring. I finger painted the image at the bottom of each meme to represent some of her work. Then I took photographs of paint dripping off my finger.
These are the three pieces before they were staged for Facebook memes on the cell phones. I spent many hours trying to get photos of the best drips with one hand and trying to avoid having the drips fall off my finger onto the placed artwork with the other. It was fun and frustrating all at the same time.
