Yr 2. Project 1. Monks Abbey Folly

Lincoln City Council proposed to build within the walls of the Monks Abbey ruin, to include a viewing platform towards the Cathedral. It also deals with an internal space connecting to the grounds of a childrens play area and bowling green. The function I found appropriate for this is an exhibition space, displaying surrounding film and television project work from local schools and universities. It offers areas for projection and for physical work at night, during the day time it will simply be an interative space to engage the users of the surrounding area.

Proposed Concept
The concept behind my design is based around all public spaces, particularly parks. Many are surrounded by trees creating an enclosed space outdoors, meaning you must enter the space to understand it. I used the spaces inbetween these trees to create the idea of wooden beams which partially enclose the space, and only upon entering do you know what is inside the ruin.
