Nôm Na (喃哪) - RMIT Design Capstone 2 Project

“Nôm na” is an exhibition project on Nom script - a type of script that was used to write Vietnamese. Nom script was established and used with the formation of the Vietnamese language in the 700s until the 1945s, then it was abandoned.

The project deals with raising awareness of the Vietnamese people about this traditional script and giving information about the process of digitizing logographic writing. The target audiences would be typeface designers and people who are interested in Vietnamese history and heritage. The experience will come in five chapters: history, mechanics, digitalization, application, and workshops. The project has three main deliverables according to the three phases of the user scenario: the poster for people to know about the exhibition, the exhibition that people go to, and a short handbook for people to take home.

The exhibition is expected to inform and promote people’s influence on the script used to write Vietnamese for most of its history, thereby enhancing attachment to culture and heritage.
