Process
The concept of the cover animation was to give the illusion of a single loop of ticker tape being twisted and knotted to form a stacked tower of ticker tape. The strip would have quotes from the famous The New Yorker Interviews.
To achieve this I used Processing and the equation for a trefoil knot. A trefoil knot has great curves, twists, and complexity while remaining a loop and not colliding into itself. I generated four looped knots and interlocked them vertically to create the illusion of a strip creating a single tower. To aid ideation and experimentation, I coded a series of position and rotation sliders for each of the knots. This helped us explore different arrangements and quickly generate a variety of versions and compositions.
