As a tribute to Calgary’s first professional basketball team, the Calgary 88s of World Basketball League (WBL), I decided to make a Calgary Surge uniform inspired by the red uniforms of the 88s. I picked red (over white) as the primary colour, such that the current team doesn't have a red uniform yet and the colour is also strongly associated with Calgary as a city.
From there, I used the template from the 88s uniforms and replaced the classic College font on the texts wth the current typeface of the team (Arpona). For the text, I used "CALGARY" instead of "SURGE" on a traditional arch to keep up with the existing Black uniform and the design of the 88s reds. Using the former also emphasizes and celebrates Calgary as is.
This uniform can be used for special home games.
