For this project, I wanted it to look and feel like a contemporary book. At first I used serif and slab-serif, but ultimately chose sans-serif for all of my copy as sans-serif is more contemporary. I also used a double rule but felt it was too old-fashioned and resulted in a single rule. I wanted to use a warm Aureolin hue as Ralph Hotere uses a similar shade in his works, which is a subtle yellow.
For easy flow and readability throughout my book, I created clear hierarchy between the: headers, layout of the copy, images, folios, running headers, and integrated with white space so it could breathe. I also used a 5 by 5 by 2 column grid to allow for an optimum line length throughout. I wanted my dust jacket to stand out but still relate back to my book so I created the concept of a 'fading light' with the title "Black Light" and added a title in the same styling as in my book.
