Black Lives Matter Illustration
-------------------------------------------

This is a series of two illustrations, one abstract and the other explicit, made at the height of the black lives matter protests in USA. Through simple graphic elements, shapes and colors I tried to depict the oppression of african american life under american police brutality. I have provided descriptions about each image below. Please read to bgathera better understanding.
The first illustration is abstract and would need a second look to recognise the elements. It is a visual depiction of George Floyd's murder. The colours black and white are used, with white occupying more space to depict the oppression inherent in the society. The three arrows, symbolic of the american police badge, is the policeman's knee pressing on Georges neck. George is shown with tears coming out of his eyes out of pain. The typography in the top right corner features and unequal equal to sign representing the inequality prevalent due to systemic racism.
This illustration expicitly shows a black man being strangled by a white hand. The lungs of the man is depicted entirely to show humaneness of the character and the depressing fact that such explicit imagery is need to show that they also need to breathe.
