Nike Airmax Lunar 1

Motion Graphics
When your shoe is not only a shoe but a Nike trainer manufactured from high tec materials you're fit to conquer the urban nightlife world. Breathe .... with a lightweight cushioning, open mesh textiles, timelapse footage and magical cloth that weaves itself in ultra closeups the Nike Airmax Lunar sculpture (created by artist Rizon Parein) is formed.
For the shot of the cloth ball weaving itself we started out with a few macro photos of the real shoe, trying to find out the weaving pattern of Nikes open mesh cloth. The pattern was recreated in a single tileable section of the orange and black thread (see pictures below). That section was cloned to form a plane of woven cloth which was wrapped into a spherical shape. Three holes were cut into the cloth-ball with additional seconday threads added. Then a custom python generator was used to create single, twisted threads out of the master spline. Those single threads were then animated to grow using a randomized subspline-projected-on-masterspline technique.
